Words will fly at the First Annual Georgian Bay Reads Book Fight Night

Creemore, Ontario – October 24th, 2009 – Ever wonder what words look like when they fly off the page and take to the stage? Find out at the first annual Georgian Bay Reads Book Fight Night taking place at the Station on the Green in Creemore on Saturday, October 24th, 2009 when five local celebrities sponsored by the sisterhood of five local libraries will step up to the challenge of defending their favorite Canadian novel.

Help us celebrate October as Canadian Library Month by joining us at this fun free event. Your hostess and moderator is Antonia Zerbisias, a popular columnist from the Toronto Star, who will control the action created by Brad Holden, Editor of the Creemore Echo, representing Clearview Public Library. His opponents are Jeff McAlister from 95.1 The Peak FM, Ken Haigh , author of Under the Holy Lake, Mariane McLeod from the 97.7 FM The Beach, and Andrew Armitage , Editor of the Owen Sound Sun Times. As all these defenders are passionate about their literary choices, words are guaranteed to fly through the air in the village of the big heart!

The books – one by one – will be voted off the 2009 Georgian Bay Reads List until only one book will survive as THE BOOK for patrons of the public libraries in Clearview, Blue Mountain, Collingwood, Owen Sound and Wasaga Beach to enjoy this winter. The 2009 GBR List includes Colony of Unrequited Dreams by Wayne Johnston, No Great Mischief by Alistair MacLeod, Fifth Business by Robertson Davies, The Robber Bride by Margaret Atwood, and The Book of Negroes by Lawrence Hill.

Free complimentary tickets available at all five libraries guarantee a seat and one glass/cup of liquid refreshment for your pleasure. The fun starts at 7:00 sharp and ends with the presentation of the highly prestigious GBR Shale Trophy to the defender with the most golden words.

Come check out the action at the first annual Georgian Bay Reads Book Fight Night and celebrate storytelling – the Canadian way.
