Two firefighters in Meaford, Ontario are in the hospital after an early morning blaze. A fire in Reed’s Restaurant was discovered early this morning and as firefighters fought the blaze two or three firefighters went down.
According to one report a firefighter was pulled from the building without a pulse but was revived by medical personnel. Both of the confirmed firefighters injured are in very serious condition.
The structure dates back to the 1850’s. Firefighters arrived to discover heavy smoke showing and commenced an attack. It’s unknown exactly what happened on the interiror but the two confirmed injures occured early on in the incident. A third firefighter is also reported injured but that cannot be confirmed.
Three firefighters were pulled from the blazing restaurant-store after a floor collapsed while they were inside. No report on their condition was available.
It’s not clear if the fatality was a firefighter or civilian. The fire is still burning.
Two firefighters have been seriously injured battling a fire in downtown Meaford.
At about 6.20 a.m., emergency crews were called to a fire at a building housing an LCBO and a restaurant on Nelson St. W. and Sykes St. N. One firefighter had no vital signs when he was pulled from the building but was revived said Ontario Provincial Police Const. George Centorrino.
Another firefighter was hospitalized, also in serious condition. Fire crews are still at the scene where the OPP reports the building has suffered extensive damage.
