The Georgian Sound Festival
The Georgian Sound Festival is held annually in the communities of Thornbury and Clarksburg in The Blue Mountains, Ontario during the last weekend of April.
First produced in 1992 by the Georgian Sound Big Band, the Festival arose from the band’s mandate, framed by its late founder Bob Cringan “to provide opportunities for musicians to share interests and talents, to develop projects to benefit members and their communities with an emphasis on supporting and encouraging youthful musicians.”
Originally a one day event featuring up to five big dance bands competing for adjudicated honours, the festival is now a three day musical extravaganza showcasing every genre of jazz.
You will find every style from traditional Dixieland, big band swing, gospel, modern and Latino flavoured jazz among many others during this weekend.
The Festival is currently a production of the Thornbury-Clarksburg Rotary Club in partnership with the Georgian Sound Big Band and the support of theBlue Mountains Chamber of Commerce and many community volunteers.
