The population in our rural area is drawn from a mix of local businesses, farmers, blue collar workers and retirees who have moved from the city to enjoy the four season lifestyle. We have a high percentage of seniors. The community is growing rapidly and now provides an opportunity for young families to stay and work here.
OFFICE PRACTICE
You will practice in a new, turnkey, state-of-the-art clinic opening in late 2009 IN Thornbury, which will include Electronic Medical Record Capability. After hours care is covered by a roster in the Meaford Hospital Emergency Department.
There are currently two Family Physicians practicing in Thornbury, with plans for four additional Physicians to join this group.
Meaford has two GP Anesthetists, one board certified Geriatrician who also does Family Medicine and two additional GPs.
HOSPITAL PRACTICE
The Meaford Hospital is a busy, well equipped hospital with 24 hour emergency care, an operating room and 20 inpatient beds. Our group staffs the Meaford Hospital Emergency Room 24/7, in 24 hour shifts. The Emergency Room has approximately 10,000 visits per year. You will have the opportunity to do emergency care, including trauma from the ski hills, assist at surgery and give anaesthics, if qualified.
We also run Outpatient Clinics at the hospital for a variety of procedures, such as lumps and bumps, liquid Nitrogen, etc.
Visiting Surgeons providing care in the Outpatient Clinics include two General Surgeons, from Owen Sound and Collingwood: two Orthopaedic Surgeons, from Collingwood and Owen Sound, and one Plastic Surgeon and one visiting Dermatologist from Toronto.
COMMUNITY PRACTICE
There are two large nursing homes in the area that are covered by local physicians
PROFESSIONAL SUPPORT
The local community of physicians support one another through a Family Health Group. The secondary care hospital in Owen Sound, a distance of 20 miles from Meaford, administers the Meaford Hospital and specialist support is readily available 24/7.
The community is host to many services that augment the care given by Family Physicians. These include Social Services, Physiotherapy, Pharmacists, Chiropractic, Mental Health Services, Community Care Access Services and home nursing services such as VON
